1 Introduction. Monte Baldo, the southernmost mountain group in the pre-Alps, rises to a height of 2218 m and stands northwest of the city of Verona (Fig. 4.1 ). A long, serrated ridge, it is bounded by Lake Garda to the west, the Val Lagarina (the southern end of the Val d'Adige) to the east and the Loppio Valley to the north.

Having had to queue for up to 2 hours in previous trips to Mount Baldo we took the advice of our hotel and booked tickets online. Our slot was for 10.30 to 11.00 and we did as advised and arrived 15 minutes before our slot. All in all it was a good experience and well organised. We queued outside for 15 minutes and entered the building at 10.30.
